Research & Editorial: Marajoara Culture
Marajoara Culture
During my internship at UNFOLD studio (Antwerpen, Belgium), I was in charge of researching the pre-Columbian Marajoara culture, a complex society with a ceramic craftsmanship tradition. The main focus of this research was the fact that the 90% of the collection of the Museu Nacional in Rio de Janeiro (institution that exhibited the artefacts produced by Marajoaras), was lost after its terrible fire of 2018.
In an attempt to meaningfully re-materialise the lost ceramic artefacts, this “Guideline for a meaningful re-materialisation” was created after a deep research of the origins, beliefs, settlements, manufacturing traditions and iconographies of the lost ceramic vases.
